Senator Norman Fain was a driving force behind the construction of the Black Canyon Freeway - later I-17 - between Phoenix and Flagstaff. His dogged persistence in securing a viable transit corridor from Prescott through Lonesome Valley, connecting to the Black Canyon Freeway at Cordes Junction, was vital in developing the pavement that is State Highway 69 -and the rest, as they say, is history.
